Public Open Forum – Discussion on Rights Respecting – 20 June 2017
Bridport Town Council is meeting on Tuesday 20 June at 7pm in the Town Hall when the Public Open Forum will be dedicated to a discussion on Rights Respecting. This is part of a project, which has been supported by the Town Council, to consider adopting a ‘Charter of Rights and Responsibilities’.
Cllr Sarah Williams Leader of the Town Council says: “A Rights Respecting Charter, if adopted, would build on the successful work initiated by David Powell within schools, where children are taught their rights and the responsible behaviour required for all to have their rights met. This Charter would extend this approach to reach into the wider community. The children have enjoyed the change in attitude and have asked whether their town could be ‘Rights Respecting’ too. We would not be alone – the City of York has already declared itself to be a Rights Respecting City. We could be the first town in the country to do the same. “
The Town Council’s Public Open Forum, which can last up to 45 minutes, takes place at the start of the Council meeting. Bridport Town Council is encouraging people to come along and have their say on Rights Respecting.
